THE Baha'i Faith Buddhism
Baha'i
Faith
Founder:
Mirza Husayn-ali established the Baha’i faith and was born in 1817 in Persia
(present day Iran). Following on from the Bab and other religious tradition
predictions, Baha’ullah prophesied that he is the promised one.
Background:
In the
middle of nineteenth century, Persia was undergoing immense societal as well as
religious upheaval. There was a forerunner called the Bab, who had prophesied
the birth of someone greater than him. The teaching of Baha’u’llah that there
is one god, the unity of humankind, and religion should be united had to suffer
persecution, prison, and exile.
Core
Beliefs:
Essentially, the Baha’is believe that every
major religion was merely one stage of the evolutionary spiritual ladder for
mankind’s development. Also, Baha’u’llah’s teachings call for an end to
prejudices, equal male-female relations, harmonisation of science and religion
and establishment of peace in the world.
Buddhism:
Founder:
According to buddhism, it derives from Siddhartha Gautana, who was nicknamed as the buddha. The life of Siddhartha began in Lumbini, in modern day Nepal, sometime in the 6th century BC. The year after having spent years seeking for spiritual illuminations, he was enlightened under the Bodhi tree and turned into Buddha.
Background:
Born as a prince however, Siddhartha
left his privileged past life in order obtain an answer for man’s pain and
sorrow. Through several decades of meditation and self-control, he found out
about the Four Noble Truths and the Eight fold path, which constitute the
central doctrine of Buddhism. After that, he devoted the remainder of his life
to teaching and establishing the monks’ community.
Core Beliefs:
The essence
of Buddhism is based on The Four Noble Truths, which delve into the meaning of
suffering and the way out. The Eightfold path leads those following it through
moral and mental progress. A personal creator God is not believed by Buddhism.
The concept of karma and self-responsibility form the basis of this religion.
Baha’i faith
and Buddhism have affected spiritually and culturally on different regions and
also followers worldwide. These differing doctrines are however built on these
core messages of spreading peace, tolerance and welfare for humankind.
